They’re unwrapping the hue

02/12/2009

So they have starting unwrapping the east facade of the Hue. It is done by the same developer and architect of 222, but is a drastically different design. The price point and style are geared toward a younger crowd to not cannabalize their own market. I really like this building, I know the studios and one bedrooms have sold well, we’ll see how many go to closing. Now we wait for the retail.

Very early but…..

12/03/2008

This is a quick shot of the new municipal complex that is slated to go into where the courthouse and city hall are right now. The project is still a ways off since it is to be completed around 2012 and more phases to come online till 2027. Most of us won’t even live here anymore, but if we ever come back to visit someone when we are 40, this might be what you see.

The Boylan Bridge Pub

12/02/2008

So some of you might have noticed that I have ripped on the Boylan Bridge Brewpub a few times a while back. It’s not that I don’t want them to do well – on the contrary, it was because 5 or 6 different places have opened since they first announced they were going to make a bar there. Hell, even a couple places opened and closed in the downtime. Anyway, all that is about to change. They are making beer now! It might seem strange to start brewing before they have even fitted out the building, but you have to remember it takes a bit to get a good brew going. I’m sure Mark Fesche, the brewmaster, will be able to narrow down the options quickly and get a good batch, but it still is more art and less science, so give them a little time.

More info on their website. See the construction gallery here.

Also new raleigh has posted some stuff about them, mostly just slow and steady updates, but there is some stuff there.

Keep your ear to the ground, if this first batch makes a splash this place could get some serious staying power from us craft boozers alone. Plus, if you haven’t been over near the haunted house, then you are missing out on the deck they have going and the panorama view. Check it out and smell some hops while you are over there.

Lastly, you can submit a name for one of the brews. They are starting with everything right out of the gate from pales to stouts with a winter seasonal also. It think 6 brews total.

Yay! Designers everywhere!

11/24/2008

Alright! The market is open! Not the feeble stock market. That’s for pussies with too much….err, make that no money. This is the real market. An open air outdoor three pack bonanza of art, crafts, and goods and supplies. Picture artsplosure for the poorer man. And yes, we are all poorer people. This means you can get one off art peices, new clothes, and brushes to try to rip off others art all in one place. Hooray!

More details here.

Pretty much all you need to know is be standing in the parking lot of purple armchair (just east of 510 glenwood on west street) on saturday November 29th. This weekend. Get your shit together and be there. If you can’t find it, lick your finger and put it in the air like a golfer. Then it will inherently point towards the awesomeness wafting over from the coolness. Adjectives!

Better House than yours!

11/19/2008

This is for all those people who hate an architect moving in next to you.

I’ve actually known about this little guy for a bit now, just haven’t gotten around to getting any photos. And now I don’t have to. Hooray!

Another Rooftop Bar

11/17/2008

I’m sure everyone has been to a Carolina Ale House. They are about as common as syphilis in a streetwhore, so at some time you’ve eaten there. You like that? Nothing like combining STD’s and food. Now that I have your attention, or more likely your getting ready to close the page and go read something useful like snopes, now for the big unveil!

We are getting another rooftop on glenwood! America, Fuck Yeah!

This one is proudly being presented by the Ale House, and they do know how to pack a bar. Especially for local teams. Not so much if you are trying to catch the Cats on a thursday nite even though we play in the Big 12 which is a much better confrerence thatn the ACC. Anyway, moving right along, this guy is going on top of 500 glenwood, or the stubby little guy just south of the Morgan Keegan sign on 510 glenwood. Get it? 510, then south is 500? Just laying it out there for you derectionally challenged who sometimes forget where the ocean or canada is.

The whole biulding is getting a renovation, and it really needs it. It is pretty brutalistic architecture and is a little low in the shoulders for where it is. The picture should do it justice. Just a little stepchild at the moment.

Hears to it Ale House!

Okay one more

This is pretty awesome, and I haven’t driven down Boylan Street in while, but kudos to whoever put this up.

Check it.

Plus for those in the know, you might recognize the quote.

The Remedy

10/16/2008

So there is a cocky new kid on the block that has the idea that it can solve all your worldly woes. It is a restuarant/deli called Remedy. I’m already assuming they have a sandwich called the hangover cure. It is going in where Roly Poly used to be at the corner of Hargett and Blount (pronounced like it’s spelled). I was a little ticked when Roly Poly moved, but their new location is working out for them and we get a new joint out of the deal so I’m okay with that. This is just more stuff that is lining Hargett, I really like what is going on there. For the most part you can eat and drink from Nash to Moore within 20 yards of Hargett. I’ll let you know when it is open, should be about a month I’d think.

City Plaza

10/16/2008

So I’m only going to touch on this for a second right now. Hannover Square, or what you might call the ghetto fabulous plaza between the BBT tower and BOA building at the south end of fayetteville is getting renovated. It was a messy startup with the city calling off a kick ass snake like art installation before about a year ago. This was by a spanish artist and its lights would follow you around as you walked under a trellise. People could fight with their light tails. Anyway, they nixed that and then tried to take the land from BOA. Bad move, BOA is now pretty much the only bank in America, and you don’t want to fuck with a company already pissed off. So they negotiated and yelled obscenities, and now the city has the land. The are continuing fayetteville through to the performing arts center and building little glass cube kiosks for retail or food. I’ll snap some pictures as it gets rollling.

Damn you new raleigh
